Advertisement Critique

“Advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don’t have for something they don’t need.” -Will Rogers

This is it! We’ve come to the end of the critiques!

For the final critique, I am critiquing a Burger King advertisement for their BK Super Seven Incher sandwich.

By now, you’ve probably clicked on the above link. Are you shocked and appalled yet? The headline for this ad is “It’ll blow your mind away.” They did a good job at grabbing the reader’s attention. Its subline is “It just tastes better. What they choose to write for the body of their ad gives a good description of how they want potential customers to feel about their new sandwich. The writing style of this ad is persuasive and makes the reader want to try their new sandwich. Looking at the advertisement, I can’t deny that I kind of want to try it, too.

Beyond their writing, the ad itself is extremely provocative and somewhat sexist. Their slogan for the whole thing is basically saying eating the sandwich is like having sexual intercourse. But is it eye-catching and interesting? Yes, yes it is. I’ve never been a big fan of Burger King, but I must admit they did a pretty good job with this ad. They were persuasive, promotional, eye-catching and enticing.
They made you want to eat their sandwich!
That’s my final word.

Question of the Week: If you were to create an ad for a company, what company would you want to make it for?
